Privacy policy

Short version: Naecom CarScan has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your cars, service history and settings stay on your phone. The only time data leaves it is when you tap Scan VIN.
Who we are
Naecom CarScan is published by Marcin Weryk, trading as Naecom (Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland, United Kingdom) ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for anything described here. Contact: support@naecom.co.uk.
What stays on your phone
- Car details you enter (make, model, year, registration, VIN, mileage)
- Your service log entries (date, mileage, category, notes, cost, garage)
- Settings and your best Launch Timer times
- Live readings and fault codes from your adapter, which are shown on screen and not stored or sent anywhere
We do not receive any of this. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
What leaves your phone
If you tap Scan VIN from car, the app reads your car's 17-character VIN and sends only that VIN to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public vehicle-lookup service (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov) over an encrypted connection, to identify the car's make. NHTSA will see your phone's IP address like any website you visit; we do not send your name, location, registration or any other detail. If there is no signal, the app uses a small table built into the app instead and sends nothing. See NHTSA's own policies for how it handles requests.
Permissions
- Bluetooth / Nearby devices — to find and connect to your OBD2 adapter.
- USB — to talk to a USB adapter.
- Internet — only for the VIN lookup above.
- Location — older Android versions require this permission before an app can scan for Bluetooth devices. The app does not read, store or send your location.
What we do not do
We do not sell or share your data, show ads, use analytics or tracking, or require an account. The app is not aimed at children.
Your rights
Because we hold none of your personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete — it is all on your device, and you control it. If you have a question or concern, email support@naecom.co.uk. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
If this policy changes — for example if a future version adds accounts or syncing — we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
